Here is the full article in a UK paper that talks about Disney taking Club Penguin into the educational market. Looks like too many parents think their kids being online is just entertainment. Club Penguin is about to change that!

Disney is to bring learning to Club Penguin, the popular children’s website, in an ambitious plan to create a “21st century Sesame Street”.
Three million British children and more than 20 million worldwide play Club Penguin, a virtual world created in 2005 by a Canadian father and bought by the media conglomerate for $700 million in 2007. Players use virtual penguin alter-egos to “waddle around and meet new friends”. Children can chat with friends, join ice hockey games or start online snowball fights.
In two months’ time they will be rewarded for completing games designed to test their verbal and mathematical skills. “It’s going to take learning within a virtual space to a whole new level,” said Lane Merrifield, Club Penguin’s founder, who now oversees development of all Disney’s online games.
The aim is to mimic Sesame Street, the American children’s television show that incorporates educational elements. It is also a canny tactic to allay parents’ worries about their children spending too much time online. “If my child was going to sit down in front of a TV screen, I’d sooner have them watching Sesame Street,” Mr Merrifield said.
Details are being kept under wraps, but he is determined to keep things fun: “One of the mandates I gave was that there’s no chocolate-covered broccoli. If we’re going to do learning, [we have to] recognise that learning can just be chocolate.”

This is an outrage clubpenguin is ment to be fun not some online learning website i think it will ruin cp and if they make that choice i can guarante that many of us clubpenguin players will leave.And this proves what many have been saying Disney is ruining CP!

Wellllll, there was the Boston Tea Party, the part of the start of American Revolution that had people boycotting taxes and stuff that IS taxed, so i think those went pretty well for protests. But, im with you too if i get free stuff and agent stuff for doing educational game, but, still. Billybob and Disney have gone TOO far!

They are making me feel like im a little kindergartner who needs to learn ALOT and get rewarded for it. Im going to freakin' 7th grade and im 12 years old!!! im going to quit cp because of this. And if parents are worried that their children are online too much, put parental controls on their computer for certain times they can be on and when the cant be on at all. Or, enforce time habits, like say they can only be on the computer from 4:00PM to 5:00PM. CP shouldnt have to worry about other peoples kids on too long. They are only doing this to make more money and make more parents happy that they are playing in a educaional place. Im going to quit CP if this happens and go on another vitual word without all this educational stuff.

Whoever says Disney ruined Club Penguin, Disney has NO control in the game. If I was trying to expand my games market I would seriously try and target little kids, because once there hooked they will buy membership for a good 5 years before they quit. Disney only started becoming "kiddish" in August of 07 because Disney gave them the money to do it, not the idea. Also, this is what Screenhog said on Twitter:
"CP has already taught elements of winter survival skills, science, and math. If CP went educational, I doubt much would change"
But for some people, Sesame Street was their favorite Tv show. Plus, school season is almost near so this educational thing makes sense.
I think I like this idea! Stupid people quitting...not thinking of their childhood, younger children, or school. :P
their chocolate covered broccoli analogy is flawed.
if the broccoli is the non fun learning and the chocolate is what is supposed to make that fun, then just the chocolate wouldn't be educational at all, but clearly they want it to appear to be educational, so the "just chocolate"
only works if its either chocolate in the shape of broccoli colored green (so parents will have their kids play it) or it would be broccoli flavored chocolate which would taste bad.
what they need is a caramel apple that is an apple that tastes good, and is good for you, covered in a bit of caramel, or even just a plain apple.
anyway, this wont do very well, but it might increase the amount of younger players..
overall I don't think this will have a very large affect, except in club penguin blog politics.
I mean really, Mimo777 cant say anything good about it, and he cant say anything bad about it either.
so yeah.
also, if this had computer science mini-games, that would be kinda fun.
like finding an algorithm that will beat thin ice! (which would be like a kings tour as apposed to a knights tour)

They don't realise the importance of learning, so when they are older they can't find a job. The only way to make these types of children to learn is to incorporate learning in games and various other things that they enjoy.
You guys can protest to Club Penguin, leave Club Penguin, but this is beneficial to everyone.

I know who to thank because of this. The Mwa Mwa Penguins and them likeing "Elmo". CP sees this, and it brings awesome ideas to them, horror to us. When I get home from school, I go on CP because CP helps me get my mind of learning. If this is true, I'm better off stuck on the Club Penguin Wiki moaning with my freinds. This is not fair! Me and my freind got a bunch of pepole to protest a few hours ago. We need to stop this!

Its not disney who came up with this plan its billybob and yes I dont like the sound of this because what billybob doesent know is that its the good entertainment thats got cp so far and if he makes it a game for leaning many people will get bored and start leaving,it will start to to reverse and cp will come to an end.Hopefully because no one seems to like this idea we can pesuade billybob to change his mind.

What the puffle is wrong with Disney? When I was little the movies were joy. When I joined cp I found out how evil Disney is! Really, cp should have had sold it to Sony! No education! Just games! People think Sony would have ruined cp, but in my mind it would be better! Sony rocks!
When I was younger I really loved club penguin. I still do, but I hate what disney did to it. It was a really fun game before disney came along. My friend told me about it before it was destroyed, and it was the only thing i did online because it was such an awesome game,and my parents liked it because it was the only truly safe online game for kids. It was also a way to escape from learning and school and to be with my friends more often. Then when it got ruined and became babyish and so unfair. The members get so much more than non members. Theres a member only room at every party! And to make things worse, they advertise the memberships EVEERYWHERE. And the SECRET ninjas that were supposed to be SECRET arent SECRET anymore. What the hell does a card game have to do with martial arts??? The dojo and the mine were also secret places and the mine is ruined with the stupid recycling plant. Also, there was no need for the PSA to be destroyed. Disney just wants people to buy their stupid ds game sopeople would want to get in the new EPF. Dont get me started on how money hungry disney is. More money for memberships, need to buy a plush doll to get the cp ipod, need to buy a ds game to unlock a new room and so on. I miss club penguin. And if they make it educational it will just make it worse. So many people will stop playing. I havent deleted my account yet in hope that club penguin will come baack to its former glory. RIP Club Penguin 2005-2008.

everyone get cp games to keep the educational stuff out of it i have a 2008 version of club penguin elite penguin force but i still think the psa is beter and if they do an update like all of THIS CHOCOLATE COVERED BROCCOLI for the ipad version i wont update it and ps at least the people still have minecraft as non educational gaming right?
